Around £450 million of Coastal Waters Improvement work is expected to be among the first programmes to flow through Anglian Water's £1.5 billion Major Projects Framework, awarded in August 2026. The work is split into 10 packages worth £15 million to £80 million, covering more than 55 schemes.
Two joint ventures, end to end
The framework went to two joint ventures: Ferrovial Construction with MWH Treatment, and VolkerFitzpatrick with VolkerStevin Infrastructure. Each provides early contractor involvement, design, construction and commissioning, and each manages its own supply chain. The framework runs for five years, with an option to extend to 2036. Contracts were expected to be signed from 27 August 2026.
Where the money lands first
The early coastal projects are about £100 million at Southend, £70 million at Great Yarmouth, £70 million at King's Lynn and £30 million at Boston. All four sit on the coast between Essex and Lincolnshire, where storm overflows, sea-level pressures and growth meet.
A bigger year ahead
Anglian Water invested £1,135.5 million in 2025/26, the first year of its £11 billion 2025–2030 programme, and plans about £1.7 billion for 2026/27. The new framework sits alongside the @one Alliance, set to deliver £2.6 billion of the programme, and the Strategic Pipeline Alliance, engaged for a further 260 km of interconnectors.
Pressure behind the spending
Much of the regulatory pressure sits in wastewater. Total pollution incidents fell from 437 in 2024 to 371 in 2025, but the company still carried a £15.65 million penalty on the measure in 2025/26. In September 2025 it signed undertakings with Ofwat for a £62.8 million redress package.
