01

National Water Context

Bahrain’s national water system combines desalination, transmission and wastewater services. The National Water Strategy 2030 places coordination among water institutions, implementation monitoring and public awareness at the centre of sustainable supply management.

02

Resources & Demand

Average daily water consumption was 164.325 million gallons in 2025. EWA reported 213 million imperial gallons per day of installed desalination capacity as at June 2026. Consumption and capacity retain their different definitions and reference periods; their values are not presented as a utilisation ratio.

03

Infrastructure & Governance

EWA’s transmission network was reported at 622 kilometres as at June 2026; this excludes distribution and service pipelines. The retained national evidence reports 18 wastewater treatment plants with tertiary treatment in 2021. These measures describe different parts of the national estate.

04

Investment & Resilience

The Sitra independent water and power project was in procurement in the governed evidence. Partial operation was targeted for the second half of 2028, with full operation targeted for the second quarter of 2029. These dates are project targets rather than completed delivery.

05

Key Challenges

  1. Coordinating supply security with demand and institutional responsibilities.
  2. Delivering planned infrastructure while distinguishing targets from completed outcomes.
  3. Preserving the different scopes and periods of transmission and wastewater measures.
